The myth of Apollo and Daphne is a classic Greek tragedy from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, where the god Apollo falls in love with the nymph Daphne, who refuses his advances. Cupid, angry at Apollo, struck the god with a golden love arrow and Daphne with a leaden, hate-inducing arrow. Desperate to escape Apollo's pursuit, Daphne was transformed into a laurel tree, which Apollo then cherished as his sacred tree.
