Size: Approx 17cm D

Saint Adelaide of Italy was a 10th-century empress who became one of the most powerful women in medieval Europe. After her husband’s death she was caught up in court power struggles, facing imprisonment and exile, reflecting how fragile female authority could be at the time. She later returned as regent for her grandson and spent the rest of her life devoted to the Church, remembered for her piety and charity.

Mercedes Lucy is a Margate-based artist telling her story through clay and hand-built vessels and sculptures, exploring motherhood, grief, transformation, and decay as tender, generative forces.
